So why the title “Reaching Back and Moving Forward”?  Even though the impetus for this show came from the semi-humorous idea of three retired doctors making art, upon reflection, it was not really about our medical careers.  Rather it was about continuing to express parts of us that may have been on hold or partly on hold, and different from the daily work of our careers.  Hence, reaching back and reconnecting to those prior interests.

For John and me, making art started before retirement and took various forms, including woodworking, over several decades.  In Don’s case, it began after retirement but quickly flourished.  For each of us, the freedom of time and the desire to try new things moved us along.  As in all transitions, the issue is not really what you used to do, but what you are doing now and tomorrow and the day after that.
