SCARBOROUGH, MAINE – Harmon's Market is proud to present the first one-person show of collages by Dr. Malcolm (Mac) Rogers, entitled Images in Wood. Whether depicting himself on the beach gathering the materials for the collage, or constructing the relationship between the pieces of weathered wood in an abstract image, through these exquisitely drafted and often colorful works Rogers simultaneously makes very personal and public objects. The relationships between this polarity and others charge the work with meaning and draw the viewer into realizing tender moments of her own.
About his work, the artist wrote: "I have had a long interest in painting water colors and for the past 30 years in woodworking. I have taken brief courses in drawing and painting at the Museum School in Boston (now part of Tufts) and in woodworking at Haystack, North Bennet Street and the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. Moving to Maine allowed me to create a well-equipped workshop. Most of the furniture I have built is inspired by shaker style, found objects and nature. Over the last several years I have focused more on combining woodworking and painting in the form of wood collages."
The exhibition will be on view from August 14 through October 12, 2019. There will be a reception for the artist on Tuesday, August 13th, from 5 to 7 PM. A brief artist's talk will begin promptly at 6 o'clock.
