Don Endrizzi was born in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and grew up in NYC. He attended both Columbia College and the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. After an Orthopedic Surgery residency in New York and a brief trauma fellowship in Switzerland, he and his wife, Peggy Pennoyer, came to Portland Maine where they both had successful medical careers until retiring at the end of 2020. Watercolor painting has become a new passion in retirement. Living on the Scarborough Marsh within sight of Prout’s Neck since 1988, the influence of the natural world has been dominant in his watercolors. Scenes of wildlife and the marsh were initially influenced by Homer as well as contemporary watercolor sporting artists, including Ogden Pleissner, Arthur Shilstone, and Chet Reneson. Watercolor tutorials with Evelyn Dunphy were part of his unconventional art training.
